Monsters Score Late, Topple Rainbeaus, 5-3
|
The Monongahela Monsters topped the Kansas Rainbeaus, 5-3, in USSL Triple A action at Wichita Field. The standout performance belonged to Monongahela pitcher and Eastwood, Louisiana, native Ernie Gibson. Gibson got the win, improving to 5-1. He gave up 8 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. He allowed 3 runs. The second-place Monsters hiked their record to 59-40.
Monongahela left fielder Dermott Colenutt produced at a critical juncture. It happened in the top of the eighth with Jonah Cervantes on the mound and Monongahela leading 4-3. Colenutt drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Gibson. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
