The Austin Black Mambas beat the Monongahela Monsters, 8-3, at Mamba Park. Roy Elliott, in particular, was impressive. He was 2 for 2 with a double and 3 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Fernando Rivera got the win, improving to 1-0. He held the Monsters to 3 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 4. The victory puts Austin at 38-64.
The Monsters had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Black Mambas going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right fielder Titus Andromedon came to the plate. Andromedon hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch fastball from Monongahela hurler Fernando Feliciano. It was Andromedon's 17th home run of the year.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Austin manager Luis Vicenteno.
