Monsters Paste 3-1 Loss on Black Mambas
|
The Monongahela Monsters downed the Austin Black Mambas, 3-1, at Mamba Park. Stellar pitching by Lee Wood had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the SAAA with a 1.05 WHIP, handcuffed his opponent all game. Wood, now 12-7, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. With the win, the Monsters have a record of 61-41.
Monongahela used the stroke of Mark King to get the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Monsters ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
King called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
