Dirty Reds Deal Battery 5-2 Loss
|
Dayton pitcher Glenn Hughes had a large part in his team beating the Charleston Battery, 5-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 8.1 innings, Hughes surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. David Adelabu earned the save, his 19th, for the Dirty Reds.
Dayton used a clutch at-bat from Gil Newell to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Dirty Reds ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I had pretty good command out there," said Hughes.
Dayton has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
