Vargas Helps Ponies Defeat Coeur, 7-2
At The BFIB, the St. Louis Coeur and Kingston Ponies were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

The Kingston Ponies stymied the St. Louis Coeur, 7-2, at The BFIB. David Vargas had a good day at the plate. He went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for Kingston. Jim Smith got the win, improving to 3-2. He held the Coeur to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 4. Hui Loh picked up the save, his 1st.

Kingston used a well-timed hit by Howard Brown to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Ponies ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"We didn't play well enough to win," said St. Louis skipper Scott McMahon.

The setback makes St. Louis 31-34.
