Long Island Loss Tarnishes Serrano Performance
The St. Louis Coeur weathered an outstanding game by Long Island first baseman Jesús Serrano to topple the Lighthouse, 9-7. Serrano was 4-5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winner in relief was David Meyer. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Don Jackson closed the door for St. Louis, picking up his 4th save of the year.

The Lighthouse had been locked in a 6-6 tie with the Coeur going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Keith Hernández came to the plate. Hernández hit a 3-run home run on a 1-1 changeup from Long Island hurler Luka Bachev. It was Hernández's 8th home run of the year.

"It feels good to get this one," Hernández told the St. Louis News.

The 9th-place Coeur have won 5 consecutive games.
