Lighthouse Take Down Ponies, 7-4
|
With third baseman Pedro Alonso leading the charge, the Long Island Lighthouse defeated the Kingston Ponies, 7-4, at Megaffin Park. Alonso, who is tied for 2nd in the 3L in doubles with 31, went 3-7 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Long Island reliever Larry Alexander picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Matt Maldonado took the loss. Clancy Turner nailed down his 17th save.
Alonso had a game-changing double in the top of the 14th. On a 1-2 fastball from Matt Maldonado, he banged a bases-clearing double to right, giving the Lighthouse a 7-4 lead. It was the 31st double of the year for Alonso.
"Feels good to be on the winning side," said Alonso.
The Lighthouse lead the Third League by 4 games.
