The Richland Rails beat the Virginia Beach Whales, 4-1, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Starting pitcher William Hinkle was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Hinkle got the win, improving to 3-1. He gave up 4 hits and walked 4 over 5.1 innings. He allowed no runs. The save went to John McCall, number 2 for him.
Richland used a well-timed hit by Kyle Nelson to capture the win. The first baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Rails ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"William made his pitches," said Richland manager Ludovic Fontaine.
Richland has now won 5 games in a row.
