Pugh Powers Rails Offense
|
Richland took on Westwood in front of a lively crowd.
Jacob Pugh added some punch to the Richland offense, helping them outmuscle the Westwood Sixshooters, 9-7. In the game, Pugh, who is tied for 5th in the 3AA with a .315 batting average, went 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Ricardo Tirado got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. John McCall earned his 4th save, after closing out the game.
Purmerend, The Netherlands-born Gjelt Willems came through in the clutch. In the top of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Rails trailing 7-6, he hit a 2-run single to left-center to put Richland on top.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Rails manager Ludovic Fontaine. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The Rails now have a record of 29-17 with the win over Westwood.
