Providence Defeats Richland, 4-1
|
Jeffrey Dixon, who leads the 3AA in strikeouts with 101, had a strong outing for the Providence Pilgrims against the Richland Rails at Rails Ballpark. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-1 win. The winner was Dixon. He threw 8.0 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was John McCall. Bill Thomas got credit for the save for Providence. It was his 15th of the year.
Providence won the game in part because of Juan Luis Reyes. The right fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Pilgrims ahead, 2-0. For the game, Reyes had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
Dixon called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
Providence's record now stands at 36-33, placing them 5th in the Menard's AA.
