Fur Traders Use Late Surge to Win
|
The Tacoma Fur Traders racked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, bumping off the Virginia Beach Whales, 5-2. Luis López, who started for Tacoma, pitched effectively for his team. The win was credited to 28-year old left-handed pitcher Francisco Alonzo in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Desi Riley took the loss. Joe Burkett earned the save, his 13th, for the Fur Traders.
In the top of the ninth, Tacoma got a clutch hit from Andrew Smith. The third baseman belted a 3-run home run, putting the Fur Traders up, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a decisive one.
"Luis is a gamer," said Tacoma manager Jeff Rutherford.
The 9th-place Fur Traders go to 36-42.
