Pine Island turned a good performance from starting pitcher Jerry Scott into a 1-0 triumph over the Richland Rails at Goodyear Hanger Dome. Scott, now 5-2, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The win elevated the Dolphins to 43-42.

The Dolphins got a big boost from first baseman Norm Peterson who had a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the first inning off Rails hurler Stan Carter. It was his 25th RBI of the season and put Pine Island on top, 1-0.

"Some games build character," said Pine Island manager Alfonso Dolton. "Like this one."
