Squirrel Hill turned a fine outing from starter José Contreras into a victory over the Philadelphia Liberty Academy at Liberty Academy Field. The final score was 2-1. Contreras, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Otis Farr earned the save for Squirrel Hill.
Squirrel Hill won the game in part because of Stu Kennedy. The first baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Pierogis ahead, 2-0. For the game, Kennedy had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"I was able to really locate my pitches tonight," said Contreras.
Squirrel Hill, with the win, is 3-1.
