Thanks in large part to shortstop Dong-hua Sima, the Asheville Highlanders clipped the Philadelphia Liberty Academy, 7-6, in 10 innings. Sima was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Chris Castle, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. The win takes Asheville to 12-6.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 24-year old right fielder Matt Askin. Askin had a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Highlanders ahead, 5-4. For the game, Askin had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"The game of baseball will test you," said Chris Sanders, the Asheville skipper. "This one tested us."
