Fighting Imps Trump Thunder, 6-5

The Ithaca Fighting Imps besoiled an otherwise fine performance by St. Petersburg shortstop Billy García by beating the Thunder, 6-5, at Baby Thunder Dome. García was 3-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Jasper Pérez, the winner, is now 2-2. He struck out 5 and walked 2 over 6 innings, while allowing 1 run on 5 hits. Raúl Guzmán was called on to finish, recording his 6th save.
Ithaca used the bat of Jerry Jaramillo to get the win. The center fielder hit a cutter from Lan-quing Xin out of the park for a grand slam home run. The blast came in the top of the fourth inning and put the Fighting Imps on top, 5-1. It was Jaramillo's lone hit, but it left a mark.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Ithaca manager Jeffrey Lewis.
Losses have been few and far between for the Thunder, now 13-5.
