Miners Get Gritty, 3-2 Win
|
Marquette pitcher Trevor Covenay had a large part in his team subduing the Lake Murray MotorBoaters, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Marquette reliever Chad López picked up the win, upping his record to 6-6. Kenny Busby was saddled with the loss. Ray Duncan got credit for the save for Marquette. It was his 5th of the year.
Marquette needed the clutch hitting of Arturo Carrión to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Miners on top, 3-2. For the game, Carrión had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Carrión told a Marquette Today reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
The Miners, now 44-33, have won 4 in a row.
