The Minnesota Loons topped the Philadelphia Liberty Academy, 5-2, in USSL Double A action at Liberty Academy Field. The standout performance belonged to Minnesota pitcher and Lake Monticello, Virginia, native Rick Hartsfield. Eddy Poole was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 4 save opportunities. The winning streak has now reached 8 games for Minnesota.
The Loons got a big at-bat from third baseman Lao-che Zhu. For the game, Zhu went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. In the top of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave Minnesota a 2-0 lead.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Minnesota manager Calvin Beck.
