Big Day for Evans in 7-4 Turbeaus Win
|
The Gulf Coast Turbeaus downed the Philadelphia Liberty Academy, 7-4. The hitting star was shortstop Tom Evans. Evans was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Turbeaus. Steve Calhoun, the winner, improved to 8-4. He held the Liberty Academy to 4 runs on 6 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 4. Kenny Flint got the save, the 27th for him this season.
Evans had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a first pitch fastball from Monty McLean, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Turbeaus a 6-4 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Evans.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Evans said.
Gulf Coast has run its win streak to 4 straight.
