Liberty Academy Beat Turbeaus, 8-4
|
Gulf Coast catcher Gil Newell had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Newell went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once, even as Philadelphia beat the Turbeaus, 8-4. By defeating Gulf Coast, the 5th-place Liberty Academy improved to 49-43.
Pablo Felix's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning was a big one for Philadelphia. Coming to bat with no one out, runners on 2nd and 3rd and Philadelphia trailing 4-3, the pinch hitter reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run.
"We won," Felix told assembled media after the game. "I guess that's all that really matters."
