Miners Sneak By Liberty Academy, 3-2
|
The Marquette Miners had to overcome a good performance from Philadelphia pitcher Don Swift to claim a 3-2 win at Marquette Stadium. Swift went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. Marquette reliever Marvin Glendenning picked up the win, raising his record to 2-1. Tanzan Jouda was tagged with the loss. The win puts the Miners at 55-41, while the Liberty Academy drop to 50-46.
Vicente Mejía was the walk-off hero for Marquette. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Miners catcher hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Every loss hurts," said Philadelphia manager Ángelo Corona. "But this was a tough one."
