The Greenport Harbor Whales powered past the hometown Napanee Express, 5-4, in the opener of the 3L R Championship at Paints Ballpark. Greenport center fielder Carlos Carter hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the hosts. The Harbor Whales now lead the series 1-0.

Tomás Aragón drew 1 walk against the Express. With the game tied in the top of the sixth inning, he grounded out, driving in 1 run that put Greenport in front, 5-4.

"We lost," Napanee manager Dan Bond said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."
