They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 6-0. Pittsburgh managed only 4 hits off Thurston, who had 12 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Thurston got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
