McFarland and Shirley Fight, Get Suspended Saturday, July 29th , 2062 Yesterday at Drummers Ballpark Christian McFarland and Andrew Shirley got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Norfolk Pajaritos and Tortolita Drummers. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that McFarland will have to sit out 5 while Shirley would be given a 10-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This year, McFarland has 14 home runs and a .348 batting average. This season, Shirley has nailed down 12 saves with 26 strikeouts in 23 innings. He is credited with no wins and 4 losses and has a 5.09 earned run average. |
