Higgins Hurls Pine Island to Shutout Win Sunday, July 14th , 2058 Lawrence Higgins of the Pine Island Dolphins was on top of his game. The 22-year-old tantalized the Virginia Beach Whales with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 6-0. "He had the changeup working," Virginia Beach manager Marv Bradford said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower." The Pine Island hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 6 hits in his complete-game effort.
