Martínez 5-for-6 for Whales Thursday, August 31st , 2062 Gilberto Martínez told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard." Well, that's just what Martínez of the Virginia Beach Whales did against the Lancaster Farmers. He went to the plate 6 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, but his club still suffered a defeat, 11-8. "Not much I can say," offered Martínez in the postgame press conference. "I got a bunch of hits, but it would have been much better to get a win. Can I trade 5 hits for the win?" Gilberto Martínez hit a solo-shot off Brent Warner in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, doubled in the 9th and hit an RBI single in the 10th.
