Asheville 2061 SL AA Championship Champions Saturday, September 24th , 2061 A celebratory mood filled the air as the Asheville Highlanders closed out the season with a 3-1 victory over the Gulf Coast Turbeaus at Asheville Park to capture the SL AA Championship, 2-1. Giving the Turbeaus credit for a hard-fought series, Highlanders players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned USSL Double A champions. "We felt like this was our year all season long," said second baseman Manny Feliciano, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did." It was the 5th in franchise history. During the Silver AA regular season Asheville put up a 63-39 record and finished second. "They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected Gulf Coast manager Melvin McCullough.
