Northville Goes Hitless Against Yi
Sunday, September 2nd , 2057
Ithaca Fighting Imps starter Wan-hua Yi said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Yi recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Ithaca right-hander no-hit the Northville Eclipse, 9-0, at Imps Park, finishing with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts, facing only 30 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Yi admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
So far this season, Yi has compiled a 4-8 won-lost mark with no saves and a 4.76 ERA. In 115.1 innings he has fanned 79 and opponents are hitting him at a .269 clip.
