Hicksville Shuts Out Bompton Behind Burgess, 1-0
Friday, August 31st , 2063
The Hicksville Hounds did little to support starter Alex Burgess against the Bompton Baby Lakers, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Baby Lakers, striking out 4 and surrendering 5 hits. The performance from Burgess allowed Hicksville to escape with the 1-0 win, despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said, 'Alex, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Burgess told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
So far this year, Burgess has made 18 starts, tossed 122.2 innings, struck out 110 batters and walked 30. His record is 9-3 with a 2.71 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .220 batting average.
